Costa Rica Geologic Field Study

Volcanoes of Costa Rica

Travelling to Costa Rica to study the geology of the region was one of the most rewarding and enlightening experiences of my life. As a last minute decision, I agreed to join the group to get some school credit and a lot of field experience at the same time. The group was a mixture of students from Brevard with varying degrees and interests. During Spring Break of my junior year at Brevard College (2001) 21 other students and I along with two fearless leaders travelled south to Costa Rica to study the geologic features of the region.

Our "studying" involved hiking, or riding horses, to the tops of volcanoes, interacting with the local populace and snorkeling in the Caribbean to view the devastated coral reefs. We travelled from cities to towns to the coast making friends and seeing the country. Our guide service, International Adventures Unlimited, provided us with a thourough experience and incredible service.
