RESEARCH INTERESTS

I am an ancient art historian with research interests in Aegean art and archaeology.  I absolutely love my job!

Photo: Chora Museum, in western Greece.
This is a photo of me working with fragments of a Mycenaean wall painting more than 3200 years old that were found in the palace at Pylos in western Greece.  There were problems in the original publication of this fresco, and I'm here trying to solve those problems.  The results of this work have been accepted for publication in the forthcoming book, Aegean Wall Painting
edited by Dr. Livia Morgan.

This scanned slide came out a lot darker than it should have, but it shows me (in the shadows) working on another project with Bronze Age wall paintings.  This time the frescoes are even older (about 3500 years old), and come from the Minoan culture.

As you can see from the hundreds of storage boxes in the background, archaeological excavation produces a lot of material, and only some of it ever gets published.  Rather than excavating a site, I prefer to "excavate" in the museums.  It's amazing what a person can find!

The results of this study were published in the1997  Annual of the British School at Athens.
