May 31:

Today we had a 7:30 wake up call. We left by 8:30 to go board a ferry to Delos. We all were very excited. Although the island was overcrowded, we were still able to fully enjoy the site. It was incredible. The sacred island dedicated to Apollo was littered was sculptures and toppled buildings. There was a most fascinating museum on the island as well. After two hours on the island we took another ferry back to Mykonos. While on the ferry, one of the crewmen passed out business cards to several of the bars we had visited a couple of nights before. I will save them as they make for great stories.

Once back on Mykonos we had a little time for lunch. A group of us ate with JR at a nice restaurant near the beach. We then rushed to our ferry that would take us back to Athens. The ferry ride back to Athens was long, sad and gloomy. I was very sad to leave Greece and all my new friends and very stressed as I know the pending summer was going to leave me with little free time. I am due to work at a restaurant back home the first three nights I was back in the US. After that I’m expected back at Brevard to start a long internship. We as our ship docked at the port in Athens, it began to rain. How appropriate I thought. Heather, Kristin, Lauren, Zach and I opted to take taxis back to the hotel and it turned out to be rather cheap and very quick. We checked into our rooms in the Pan Hotel and then the entire group went out to find a nice restaurant where most of us would share our last meal. We had a couple nice bottles of wine and good food. Most people went out and toured Athens a little bit but I have a 6am flight so I’ll be getting up at 3:30am. I was told I should just pull an all nighter which I almost did but decided it would be best to get some sleep before my long day of travel tomorrow.

I said my goodbyes and headed back to the hotel with Dr. Bauslaugh and a few other people. I arranged for a 3:30 wake up call and a 4:00 taxi. I then went to bed.

June 1:

I woke up to the ringing of a phone in our bathroom. I don’t know why our regular phone didn’t ring. Of course it was my 3:30 wake up call so I got up and got my things together and headed down to the lobby. I regretted not being able to see everyone before I left today. I was a little early and had to wait about 15 minutes for my 4am taxi. The taxi finally arrived and took me to the airport. He royally ripped me off charging me 36 euros for the ride but I neither the time nor the will power to argue. I quickly found my plane by 5 and had a little while to wait. I started talking to an elderly America couple before pulling out my book and getting some reading done. I got on the plane that took me to Milan Italy.

My layover in Italy was only about an hour. I took off towards Boston as the sun was coming up and because I had a window seat, I got an incredible view of the Alpine Mountains. It was it was amazing. Unfortunately the rest of the 11 hour plane ride was not so great. There was one movie playing on the screen in the front of the plane but the person ahead of me was really tall and I was unable to see it. I started reading my book but finished it above Iceland and had five hours left to fly. I tried to get some sleep but the plane was very cramped and I couldn’t. When I got to Boston I found out that my flight had been delayed because of weather in Atlanta. I went through customs and they didn’t check me which was a good thing because the Cuban cigars would have been kind of hard to explain. I then went and had a very America Burger and wished that it was a gyro instead. I caught my next plane and got into Atlanta at around 9pm. I didn’t get to my car until after 10pm. By about midnight I was so tired I knew it would be best to stop. I rented a dinky little motel room and sleep like a stone till 10am then got up and made the rest of the drive back home just in time to get ready for work.
