Metamorphic Rocks

  • Rocks formed by the alteration of another rock type by heat, pressure, or chemical action. May result from:

  • Tectonic Activity – Heat and pressure generated at plate boundaries give rise to regional metamorphism of rock.

  • Intrusions of magma into preexisting rock causes partial melting and recrystallization of the country rock, generally localized contact metamorphism.
