Our 6:15 arrival in La Paz was marked by the hustle and bustle of a city waking up. It took about half an hour to get our bags and get them into a fleet of taxis to take us to the Hotel El Dorado which is just a couple of blocks up on the prado from the Hotel España where I stayed two years ago. I shared a very small triple with Mike and Chris.

I had a case of diarrhea after breakfast. Some of us went to LAB to get problems with our tickets fixed. Mine took about an hour, but everything now seems to be in order. I walked back to the hotel where I found Matt, Jessica, and Marydale on their way to the artisan market, so I joined them. Matt and I were hungry, so we stopped at the Naira restaurant for a llama milanesa which was quite good, but very rich.

We went out in the street to shop. I bought Joan a poncho and found a few other things including three beautiful trilobite fossils. Matt went into a guitar shop and tried out some guitars. I sat down and nearly fell asleep several times. He decided on a nice $100 guitar and a beautiful $3 case. When I stood up I felt an enormous surge of diarrhea. I made it back to the Naira and used their facilities. Then I walked back through the crowded streets to the hotel where I took a shower, an immodium, and a nap.

Chris woke me up around 6:00 . We talked and then Mike came back and Chris helped him reorganize all of the unused equipment that the Montreat group brought.

At 7:30 we boarded the new bus that Lesman and Erwin had driven in from Cochabamba and took a long “short-cut” to the Peña at the Huari restaurant. The food was good and the show was excellent. The dancers kept dragging the students onto the stage to dance. There was also an amazing charango player and two superb Andean bands. We stayed until about midnight and then took our bus directly back to the hotel. I went right to bed but most of the students stayed up and partied.
