I slept somewhat better but still did not feel refreshed when I got up.  We started using two drills today.  I work with Matt, Rich measures and helps Brian, Pedro floats between us.  Our first two sites took forever but then we got in to some fluvial strata along with some lacustrine beds exposed along the road.  The very fine-grained sandstones drill the best.  By the end of the day Matt was an expert driller.  Brian is already good.

Most of the horizontal lines on the far hill are stone walls built by
generations of peasants who farmed this land. The elevation here is
about 14,000'.

We stayed in the field until sunset at 6:00 and returned to town.  Rich cooked an excellent vegetable pasta dish.  After dinner we exchanged field notes and went to bed.

The town fathers gave us some straw mats to sleep on. I put mine up on the stage in the main hall. It is a little creepy living in the vast dark room of the community hall. The locals are constantly standing at the broken windows and looking in. The kids can be a real pain, constantly vying for our attention or asking for money.
