Today was another day of working along the road, although today’s was a road that is no longer passable due to a washout.  Throughout the day we had a beautiful view of the eastern Cordillera.  Not many people came by but there were a few.  One man and his son stayed and watched for a while.

Matt Bourke drills a paleomagnetic core while a Bolivian boy looks on.
Rich Fink and Brian Horton can be seen in the background drilling at the
previous site.

We stopped drilling at 2:30 so that Pedro and Rich could drive to La Paz to get some supplies which were accidentally left at the hotel.  They’ll also pick up some more food. Having a couple of hours of daylight left, the rest of us heated some water and washed for the first time since leaving La Paz.  It felt great! The three of us cooked our standard meal of pasta, rice, and stir-fried vegetables before settling into our evening reading and writing routines. Once again we were all in our sleeping bags by 9:00.
