June and July 2001 JR's Journal Oruro to Chuquichambi
|
| I slept soundly until I had to get up at 3:00. The traffic was
loud all night so I slept intermittently until I got up at 7:30.
I packed and was in the lobby by 8:00. We packed the Land Cruiser
and drove to the city center for breakfast. It looked a little sketchy
but it tasted good. I think it did Matt in as he was out of commission
for the rest of the day.
The internet cafes were closed so we went to Entel where Brian and Rich called home. We then got a spot weld on a loose piece of the vehicle’s brush guards (for $1.50). We returned to Chuquichambi under overcast skies. I dozed a little
as did the other three. Pedro, who was on his own after dinner last
night, was solid as a rock. Again, we saw lots of vicuñas and llamas.
Back in Chuquichambi, we quickly loaded for the field. Matt was quite ill with diarrhea. The rest of us went out to our usual drop-off point at site 104 and had a junk food lunch. Brian, Rich, and I walked up to site 132 looking for tuffs. We found about 10 and sampled six of them. We should get at least one good age from them. We returned to the Jeep and drove the rest of the project. We will probably move over there and camp in a couple of days. It will be nice to get out of Chuquichambi. We returned to town around 5:00. I wrote while Pedro cooked and the other three napped. Matt seems to be feeling better. |
