I didn’t sleep too well because my left buttock was so sore.
As soon as I got up I set about duct-taping my ripped pants. We ate
breakfast and were back in the field by 8:45. The hike up to the
day’s first site did not seem nearly as long as last night’s descent. We
passed several beautiful ice floes coming out of small tributary gullies.
We sampled throughout the day, fighting a cool breeze for most of it. The going wasn’t too bad and the section was pretty continuous until we neared the vehicle. Our last site was a thin sand on the ridgeline along the path we had walked up in the morning. Pedro walked up to greet us. We were all very happy to be done with that part of the section. We had a good time doing it, but there’s more ahead. Back at the school, Pedro had a surprise for us. He had gone back and prepared dinner at 4:30 so after just a few minutes of heating it up, we were gobbling it down. Rich and I caught up on our data. Brian was having some stomach problems so he went to bed around 8:00. I turned in around 9:15. |
