Day 13 Fotos

Our wake-up call came at 8:00. Anne reminded me at breakfast that we needed to change some money. Manolos, the hotel proprietor was able to exchange $1000 through his brother. Our bus came at 9:30. We loaded up and drove to the port. After an hour an a half wait, the hydrofoil ferry arrived and we boarded for the two-hour hop to Naxos via Ios. The boat was fully booked. We took our seats and were soon sailing out of the caldera at high speed aboard the catamaran-hulled “Flying Cat 4”. We made quick stops at the ports on Ios and Paros. At Naxos we were quickly ushered off so the ferry could continue to Mikanos.

The Iliovasilema Hotel provided transportation from the port to the hotel. It is very nice with a pool and friendly people. It was after 3:00 so we gave the students the rest of the day off. The four of us went to a restaurant down on the beach. We were entertained by a bare-breasted, thong clad beauty frolicking in the calm water of the bay.

We walked back to the hotel. Bob, Anne, and Drew rented bicycles and took off to ride around town. I went to my room and made the mistake of lying down and was soon asleep. Unfortunately, I slept up against my pack and put just enough pressure on it so that my camelback drained on the bed giving it a good soak.

I went down to the pool and hung out with the students. Bob and Anne brought back a good Naxian wine which we drank before heading down to the beach for an excellent kalamari dinner. Drew was a bundle of energy. After riding his bike and playing at the beach, he had jumped in the pool for 45 minutes of constant motion. Then, before and after dinner, he ran up and down the beach several times.

We returned to the hotel. I showered and went to bed. The pool had a colored fountain in its center that rained water against the surface. It rapidly lulled me to sleep.
