Day 13 Fotos

Since it was a free day, everyone slept in. I had an 11:00 meeting with Claudia and Chiqui out at UNSa so Angel took Todd, a couple of students, and me out there along the road north from San Lorenzo up the west side of the valley. They dropped me off and I went up to José's office and chatted with Berta. José was in Buenos Aires serving as an expert witness.

After half an hour, it dawned on me that we had not set a meeting place so Berta phoned around and found Claudia and Chiqui in the x-ray lab. I walked over there. Nilda was there too; it was good to see her. Claudia, Chiqui, and I talked about the Angastaco section, agreeing that Claudia would try to collect the remaining sites.

Claudia and I drove into town for lunch, passing by Grand Bourg to pick up her husband, Daniel. It had been years since I last saw him. We went to a small restaurant near the old Convent and had an excellent meal and good conversation. Daniel is still consulting for the mining industry.

After lunch we took Daniel back to the house. Claudia and I went to the Mercado Artesano where I bought a sweater for Joan and Claudia bought her a small gift too. Then we drove to a café in the Quebrada del Río San Lorenzo and talked about her coming to Brevard in January 2007 with her son, Matias. I hope we can work something out.

She had to pick up Matias at 4:30 so she dropped me off at the hotel. I went to the room and took a 2-hour nap. Todd came in after his day in the city saying he had seen most of the students. We had a beer and then went down to the bus stop. After half an hour wait the bus came and took us to El Centro . We went to the black market corner and changed $400 that I owed Angel for various student drinks and meals. From there we walked to El Solar del Convento, in my opinion, Salta 's best restaurant. Inside we found the 4 Sewanee students enjoying a great meal. We, too, had excellent food. I had trout covered with Roquefort cheese and fries with 2 cheese empanadas.

We took a cab back to the hotel with the intention of having a bottle of wine, but there were about a million pre-adolescent boys in the dining room jumping around to a disco beat and light show. We went to bed instead.
