Appalachian College Association JR's Journal Somewhere Over South America |
According to the in-flight tracker on the screen, I awoke over the north coast of South America. We proceeded over Jamaica and eastern Cuba as we ate a light breakfast. We landed in Miami a little before 7:00. Our bags were about the last off of the plane. We breezed through customs quickly and were soon saying good-bye to the Sewanee people. The Ferrum and Brevard cadre walked to Concourse H and checked our bags in. Samm, Todd, and I went to Chili's for breakfast. We had a final borrachos without borders event by treating ourselves to Bloody Marys with our meals. We joined the rest of the group out at our gate and sat around reminiscing until our flight was called. I fell asleep soon after take-off and awoke as we began our approach into Atlanta. We all had lunch at Chili's and then hung out at the gate. Motley and Samm were the last onto the plane and nearly forfeited their seats. I sat with Samm; she bubbled with excitement the entire way from Atlanta to Asheville. Parents of Chelsea, Jayne and Motley met us in Asheville. April's car was at Jayne's house so she left with them. That left Samm and me. Barry Fulton awaited us outside in a Brevard College van and took us down to the college. Ward awaited Samm there. Barry took me over to Bauslaugh's where Stephanie was ready to accompany me home to surprise Joan. I was tired enough that I was more than happy to let her drive. An hour and a half later we were home. It was an amazing, if somewhat disjointed, trip and we all got home safely. |
