Puerto Viejo to San José

Margaret and I walked to the Café Palmer.  The rest of the group lounged around the hotel.  We are both pretty happy about the way the trip turned out.  I suspect this opened a new world for her.  It’s been fun to watch her evolve from a worrywart to a cool, laid-back leader.  The students love her.  She's really glad that they call her Margaret now.

Margaret and I are really pleased with the way this trip turned
out. It wouldn't have been possible without such a great group
of students. (Note that I decided not to have my hair braided into
corn rows!)

We loaded the van and pulled out around noon.  Traffic was heavy as we headed inland.  We climbed slowly into the cloud forest, stopping at an open-air restaurant for a good lunch.  Dani caught a Basilisk lizard and an armadillo. His ability to capture wildlife bare-handed is quite amazing.

We stopped in Moravia on our way into San José.  I spent another $85 on trinkets, including a Costa Rican flag.  Everyone was glad to get back to the Edelweiss.  Hans asked if I would like my old room; I said yes.

We walked to a nice restaurant about two blocks away for dinner.  I’m sure it was our most expensive meal since our arrival but it was the least tasty with the smallest portions.  After dinner, we went through a series of toasts and then walked back to the hotel for a little singing and last-night camaraderie.  The students are all sad to see it end.  Although Margaret and I feel the same way, we are anticipating the relief we will feel when it is over.
