Arizona State University's Volcanology Field Trip to GUATEMALAJR's Journal Guatemala City to Greer |
We got up at 5:30 for our 6:00 breakfast. All of the guys were there on time. When they finished, Luis and Loli took the first group to the airport. Then, Luis took the remainder and Loli called Arturo to tell him to take the women directly to the airport. I went back upstairs and laid down for a couple of more hours of sleep. I took a shower when I got up and then reorganized my packing. I spent a half hour on the internet before Loli drove me to the airport. With a beso, we said good-bye. I hope to stay there next time. It is so much nicer than the Pensión Asturias where I stayed in the 1970's. It is only a minute from the airport (when you know the way!). The airport was chaotic with long lines at check-in, airport taxes, and security. Our flight took off on time. Unfortunately, my seat was over the wing. It was a beautifully clear day but my view of the North American-Caribbean plate boundary was mostly blotted out by aluminum. I wrote and watched “The Corpse Bride”. Before I knew it, we were in Atlanta. I had a 5-hour layover so after clearing customs I had a leisurely dinner of a roast beef sandwich before going to my gate. I sat there catching up in my journal until boarding. We took off at 11:15, 15 minutes late. I dozed a little bit so the half hour flight went by fast. I walked out of the airport after picking up my bags and Stephanie was parked at the curb as we had prearranged. In ten minutes we were home, the end of another great trip. |
