Brevard, NC to Buenos Aires, Argentina
December 26, 2001

I stayed up late on Christmas Day eating a Christmas dinner of goat cheese and crackers with a glass of red wine in my rooms in the basement of Jones Hall.  The fact that I was alone did not bother me.  I then watched a couple of dinosaur shows on the Discovery Channel before finishing my packing and going to bed at 2:30.

My alarm went off at 7:30.  I had a cup of coca tea and loaded my gear into the 4Runner before driving to my office for some last minute emails and to check for any developments with the social unrest in Argentina… nothing new.

I drove to the airport and parked, hoping Elise would pick it up soon.  Security was extremely tight at AVL – almost comical.  We had to take our shoes off and put them through the x-ray machine.  I read Lynn Hightower’s “The Debt Collector” on the flight to Atlanta.  My connection to Miami left 20 minutes late.  When we arrived, I picked up my bags and wheeled them to the American Airlines counter.  George and Danielle Sharp greeted me in line as did Ericas Peterson and Palson.  After checking my bags I went to the gate and found Bob Osinski and the Nicoliches.  Others continued to arrive.  My biggest worry was the arrival of the flight from LA with about 20 of our people.  It came in with plenty of time to spare.  Suddenly, all 33 people were there!  Our flight left about half an hour late.  I watched “American Pie 2” and then fell asleep.
