I guess that the Hostería Petrel's new management is determined to fail. We had an excellent breakfast the last time I was there but this time it was just bread and coffee. The group's whiners made sure that everyone knew of their dissatisfaction.

Once again the Green Machine would not start so Angel finally concluded that he needed a new battery once he got to Ushuaia. Once the truck was started, he headed straight for Ushuaia. Carlo returned to Chile early in the morning. At 10:00 Edgar arrived with a new bus from Ushuaia. We piled on it and headed north to the Hostería Kaiken and the Lago Fagnano overlook where we talked about the tectonics of the Scotia-South American plate boundary and the seiche from the 1949 earthquake.

Next, we drove to the Paso Garibaldi and the Lago Escondido overlook. We hit pavement again about halfway down the south flank of the E-W Range . Our third stop was at the platform of the Valle Carabajal overlook. I also pointed out the peat mining operation along the Río Olivia.

In Ushuaia, we went straight to the Rumbo Sur dock for our Beagle Channel excursion. We passed Angel at the big grocery store but had to wait until 2:45 when he finally showed up with lunch and the boat tickets. I have no idea what took him so long. Everyone grabbed a sandwich and a ticket and boarded the boat for the 3:00 departure.

The tour was great; the skies were mostly clear with only a few showers. Everyone liked the cormorants and sea lions.

At the end of the 2 ½ hour trip the students dispersed into Ushuaia, many staying to jazzercise or play soccer-volleyball with the locals in the shoreline park. Chris and Nicole checked in to the ACA hotel so that he could recover. I did some shopping, internet, and spent some time with students at the Irish pub. We went back to the bus for an 8:00 departure for the campsite in Tierra del Fuego National Park. Chris and Nicole had a minor problem at the hotel so I went with them to clear it up. Back at the bus, our guide, Andrea, arrived and we headed for the park.

The campground was spacious. Most, but not all, people helped set up the dining tent before setting up their own. Guto and Jackie put together the final touches. Once again, dinner was served late but only the whiners seemed to notice. The campsite is on the SE shore of Laguna Roca near the Chilean border. The forest and the confiteria protect the campers from the wind.
