Geological Society of America's Student-Oriented GeoTrip "Patagonia--New Year's at the End of the World" JR's Journal Miami to Greer |
We arrived in Miami a little ahead of schedule and breezed through customs. Our bags came off quickly meaning that John probably made his tight connection to Detroit. The rest of us gradually scattered to make our homeward flights. About 8 of us hung out in the Delta area for over an hour. Finally, Celeste and I bid farewell to our friends and went to our gate. It was an easy flight to Tallahassee but, sitting in the waiting room at our Atlanta gate I got concerned that no pre-boarding announcements of our flight came over. I inquired and was casually told that our flight was cancelled but that we could get on another one that was leaving immediately.Had the Argentine fog invaded the US in our absence? We did and made it to Atlanta earlier than expected. That gave us time to grab a sandwich near our gate to GSP. The flight to GSP was fast and easy. As we descended to the arrivals area, I told Celeste that if she saw a woman bouncing off the ceiling, it would be Joan. Joan was there, excited but earthbound and joined me in a big hug and kiss. We chattered all the way to the baggage claim. Joan went to get the Pathfinder while Celeste and I retrieved our bags. The 15 minute drive home took longer due to road construction. Celeste was really anxious to get back to Brevard so as soon as we got home, we loaded up her car. Then, after a final beso, she was off. The trip was over and everyone was back safely. |
