Day 5 Fotos from Along the Road from El Calafate to El Chalten

Our first stop on our journey to El Chalten was the outlet of Lago Argentino, the source of the Río Santa Cruz. The water has a greenish hue because of the suspended load of finely ground rock flour that it carries.

Amanda G. and Amanda O. getting their first experience as techeras, riding on the roof of the Green Machine along the north shore of Lago Viedma.

A large glacial erratic sits on the north side of the lake. The Viedma Glacier, which brought it there during cooler times, is seen in the background entering Lago Viedma.

Magnificent structures are exposed in the rock wall on the north side of the lake where thrust faults and folds deform the Cretaceous strata.

We camped at the El Refugio campground in El Chalten, just a short walk from the downtown area.

Our New Year's party was held at the nearby FitzRoy Inn. Anastasiya, Raúl, and Rick set the party tone.

Dinner was buffet-style dinner at a long table for the group. Tim (left), Dave, and Celeste seem to be having a good time judging from what is on the table.

Michala and Josh did a number on the dance floor. Most of the staff joined in.

Amanda O. shows Tim, Kim, Amanda G. and Erin how it's done.
